I have a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan combined in education and psychology, a masters in developmental psychology, a masters in education and was a certified special education teacher.
I am the principal investigator on two studies of the role of traumatic exposure on child cognitive and social development and have written extensively on how traumatic exposure influences development.
My research interests stem from my first career as a special educator for children and adolescents with emotional and behavioral disorders in social service and mental health placements. Most of these youth had child abuse, neglect, poverty and violence exposure backgrounds. I became interested in the role of violence and traumatic experiences on development.
